A sector highly connected with political situations but became doubled during last 10-years
In the year 2017, the construction sector in Bangladesh has contributed BDT 6695.10 million in the GDP which was BDT 539.9 million higher than that of the year 2016. A gradual growth has been experienced in this sector which has almost been doubled in last 10 years. Around 3.5 million people are directly or indirectly associated with this industry. Several growing industries in Bangladesh namely ceramics, cement, steel and iron, sanitary and glass ware, paint, and other construction materials are closely associated with this sector. One of the key forces helping the real estate industry to grow is the investment of foreign remittances in this sector. Almost 10% of the foreign investments is now being used for the purchase of plots and flats. Decrease in the prices of construction materials like cement, iron, steel, brick, sand, paint, timber, ceramics, etc. work as positive factor of the growth of construction sector. The progress in the construction sector in Bangladesh is heavily backed by infrastructure projects by government (as government has planned to implement 10 mega projects by 2030).
